Highway "1"
John Muir
Beach !

     different from
     great whale and
     red rock beaches
     in that there is no
     hills to climb to get
     to the beach;
     john muir beach, on
     the north side of the
     golden gate bridge
     off highway "1",
     is fascinating place
     highly worthy of
     many visit.

     while
     Great Whale Beach
     hills and steep ravine
     are some of its
     prominent features,
     john muir beach
     dominant features are
     (a1)
     the homes around the
     beach coastline
     (a2)
     the unique rock
     formations on the
     beach
     (a3)
     the aquatic wildlife
     visible on rocks
     (a4)
     a fresh water stream
     running thru the beach
     (a5)
     the abundance of
     information in the
     parking lot
     (a6)
     the many walking trails
     in the mountains
     around the beach.

     having visited john
     muir beach two times,
     each visit was different
     in that
     (b1)
     there was fewer
     people around the rocks
     and
     (b2)
     we did not notice any
     wildlife on the rocks.

     one of the things we
     remember most about
     the first visit to the
     beach area was the
     mussels and starfish
     attached to the rocks.

     there was a lot of
     rock on the beach
     ranging in size from
     small peebles to
     big boulders over
     ten feet tall.

     the irregular sizes of
     the rocks made it
     difficult to walk thru
     that part of the beach.

     I guessed another thing
     that made the 1st visit
     to john muir beach
     so special was their
was a lot of people in
     the rock formation
     observing the wildlife,
     some even cutting
     starfish from the
     rocks with knives.

     being somewhat
     disappointed in that
     there was no wildlife
     on the rocks on the
     beach because of the
     tides or season,
     we shifted our
     exploration to homes
     near the beach and
     the surrounding small
     hills on our second
     visit too
     john muir beach

     while
     Great Whale Beach
     and
     Red Rock Beach
     are areas with no
     homes for people,
     John Muir Beach
     is a small town
     with over 300
     residence according
     to the 2010 census.

     with over a dozen
     homes visible from
     the beach, on our
     second visit we place
     a lot of emphasis
     on taking pictures of
     the home we could
     see near the beach
     and in its hills.

     one road near the beach
     gave us the chance to
     explore some of the
     homes in the town
     up close and personal.

     while the entrance
     to the beach is on
     somewhat flatland,
     the surrounding land
     is very hilly with homes,
     and mountain trails.

     the AMBS team
     can see why
     john muir beach is
     listed in books as an
     important place to
     visit;
     make plans to stop
     there while traveling
     on Highway "1"
     just north of the
     golden gate bridge.
     we think you will be
     amazed as we were.
